Village Across the Lake
Village Across the Lake

Trip Notes
Saturday, October 5th, 2002

Managed to get in 53 km. before the wind and rain got to be too much. The sou’west’r was gusting to 80 km.. Most of the time it was an harassing crosswind. At one point the wind got behind me for about 5 minutes and I was suddenly spirited along a beautiful rolling stretch of patchy road at 50 km. per hour.

I’ve often wondered what it would be like to cruise at the speed of a professional tour rider, and I think this may be the closest I’ll ever come. This definitely gives one an appreciation for the danger in riding a bicycle that fast, and how the pros have spectacular wipe outs at high speed – it was scary! The second half of today’s ride was cancelled due to the high winds and driving rain. I think my legs needed a day off anyway, as they were “dead” this morning after battling the winds and hills for the last three days. Great excuse to go visit Ken and Brandi!

Ken's New House

At Home with the Sheehan's

K & B’s newly completed house is in a classic farmhouse style in “corn maize” yellow. KEN did the layout of the house but does admit he had to do a lot of “selling” on Brandi to get all of his features incorporated. However, Brandi says she did manage to get one or two of her ideas worked in. I have the feeling she ended up quite happy in the deal. It is a lovely house!

Brandi n' Claire

The New Arrival

Brandi seems like a happy and relaxed mother, and baby Claire the perfect baby. Baby slept 6 hours last night. Brandi loves to have a nap together with her mid morning. While the baby is being fed Ken, Cheryl and I spent some time on the front porch watching the trees bend in the wind and the sheets of rain come down. Did I just hear a burp?

Ken just said "I can’t believe we’re finally in this house, with our baby, it’s so cool, it’s great! And I just love having people from away."

Local Legend...

More island culture: If you weren’t born on P.E.I. you are “from away.” That’s just the way it is. Legend is there was woman who moved to P.E.I. with her parents from Boston early last century. She was two months old. She died at on P.E.I. at the age of 92. The local papers announced “former Boston resident passes away …’

Tomorrow brings new winds and a new stage …
