Publication of Regulations Amending Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations

October 2011

Amendment 11 to the Energy Efficiency Regulations was published on October 12, 2011 in the Canada Gazette, Part II and comes into force six months after publication, on April 12, 2012.

This is the second of three planned amendments to the Energy Efficiency Regulations to deliver energy, greenhouse gas and air pollutant reductions as part of Canada's Clean Air Regulatory Agenda.

Summary of affected products
The amendment will:
Increase the stringency and/or scope of existing minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for seven currently regulated products:

• Electric motors
• Residential gas boilers
• Residential oil boilers
• Dry-type transformers
• Large air-conditioners and heat pumps
• Commercial self-contained refrigeration
• General service incandescent reflector lamps
